They can be found only in the most remote and practically inaccessible areas of Russia. Snow Sheep population in Russia is estimated to be around 57,000 heads and that is not including protected species such as Putorana Sheep. Okhotsk Snow Sheep inhabit mountainous terrains of Magadan and Khabarovsk region in Russia. Hunters can find a good population of Snow Sheep there. Success is nearly 100%. This race of Okhotsk Snow Sheep has the largest white area on the forehead of all Snow Sheep, as well as the largest body size – identical to Kamchatka Snow Sheep.

How to get there:

You fly to Moscow where you are met by our crew, and then you will fly to Magadan or Khabarovsk. We will do everything possible to expedite the customs procedure. From Magadan / Khabarovsk you will be transferred to the camp by helicopter or by ground transportation depending on the location of the hunting area.

Hunting season:

From August 1 to September 20. Optimal hunting period is from August 1 to September 10.

Snow Sheep hunting:

Hunting is done on foot. You have to be ready for walking 10-12 miles a day. Spike camps are used if Sheep are found far from the base camp. The altitude is about 6,000 feet. The terrain is not very difficult; nevertheless, it offers the right portion of challenge.

Accommodation:

Accommodation is in tented camps. They are usually equipped with stoves and portable cots. Showers are rarely available. In most cases a hot water basin is used. The camps are located in mountain valleys at 3,000 feet.

Weather:

40 F up to 50 F – during the day time
32 F up to 40 F – during the night and morning hours
